Remembering Patrick J. Murphy

Patrick Jude Murphy was one of the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon. He had been my student in calculus and differential equations at Ole Miss, and he and I had remained in touch for a couple of years after that, while I taught at Millsaps. After that, we both were living outside Mississippi and lost contact.

I remember Pat as a very friendly, good-hearted person as well as a dedicated, hard-working, skin-of-the-teeth A student. His Pentagon memorial can be found here, and his Arlington Cemetery memorial is here.
